REVIVE is a 6 session group beginning Monday 16th May 2022 being held by Hull Churches Home from Hospital.
It is aimed at older individuals who still feel they are carrying some of the negative consequences of lockdowns and covid either in general or post-covid symptoms if they had it.
This could be affecting them socially, mentally, emotionally or physically.
An example of such factors would be:
• a general dip in self esteem/self confidence
• a noticeable decrease in confidence/unwillingness to venture out again now lockdowns have ended
• reluctance to go out alone in this ‘new normal’
• loss of social contacts and even social skills
• poorer mental health
• reduced muscle tone or uncertainty over how much they can now physically manage if they do go out
• an increase in or development of anxiety or depression
Revive provides a safe space to share how we feel with others who’ve been through similar experiences. We have Vintage Singer, Ruth Getz, with us for the full programme and she will show us how to have fun as we sing together. We will also learn how to breathe appropriately i.e. deeply from the belly, in order to sing our best song! We then take a step sideways and continue to practice this skill of deep breathing and use it to help us relax well and reduce anxiety via meditation/mindfulness, with gentle chair exercises and then with gentle stretches. The final session will be an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come and provide information of future community based activities that could continue to be accessed by the client if they wish.
