Distraction Burglaries

Message from Humberside Police:

There have been reports in areas of distraction burglars in operation.

Con artists are attending at the houses of older members of the community and asking if they want to buy cheap cigarettes.  They are persuaded to pay for these upfront and once they have parted with money (sometimes hundreds of pounds at a time) the caller never comes back.

Please do not part with money in advance and remember if something is an opportunity too good to be true, it probably is.  Never let anyone in your house who you do not know.

If you have been victim of one these scams then please report to Humberside Police via 101.  If you see something suspicious then please report to the police.

If you have an elderly relative or friend in the community please make them aware of these scams.
