ALL the Hull CVS and Sector Connect Hull courses below are now FREE for charitable groups to attend, so get in touch to book on NOW via Tracey on tlaws@hull-cvs.co.uk. The training will benefit you and your organisation and are FREE to all staff trustees and volunteers within not for profit groups.

The courses available are as follows:
June courses Chairing Skills Tuesday 6th June 9:30am – 12:30pm Centre 88 – Conference Room One During this course we will brush up on our chairing skills and explore the factors that can improve your confidence in chairing. You will complete the Peter Honey diagnostic tool for chairing meetings to identify your own strengths and areas for improvement. This course is aimed at anyone who would like to improve their confidence when chairing meetings, and community/development workers who wish to become familiar with the Peter Honey diagnostic to share with other groups and organisations. Time Management Tuesday 6th June 1:00pm – 4:00pm Centre 88 – Conference Room One Join us on this course to explore a wide range of techniques for getting the most out of every minute of work day and improving your work/life balance. On completion of this course you will have identified your biggest time stealers and created strategies to overcome them. Event Planning Wednesday 7th June 1:00pm – 2:30pm Centre 88 – Conference Room Two Need help with making sure you have all the necessary permissions and insurances in place for your event? The Events Manager for Hull City Council is offering an informal session, they will discuss what is required before you run an event and will explain the levels of responsibility involved Emergency First Aid at Work Level 3 Wednesday 7th June 9:30am – 4:00pm Centre 88 – Conference Room One The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is a legal requirement for many organisations. This course covers life saving techniques including: Recovery Position Sudden cardiac arrests Heart attacks CPR and using a defibrillator & Bleeding Certificates are valid for 3 years. Writing Good Grant applications Tuesday 13th June 9:30 am – 1:00 pm The Strand, Regent Room A course suitable for those with some grant-writing experience and those who are new to it. By the end of the session, attendees will: Understand how grants fit into an overall fundraising strategy Be able to identify ‘best fit’ funders Recognise the elements of a funding bid and apply them to projects Understand how to write project budgets Recognise funders’ monitoring and evaluation requirements. This is an ideal session for trustees who want to refresh their knowledge or people interested in potentially moving into a trustee position in the future. Business Planning and Financing the Plan Wednesday 28th June 9:30am – 3:00pm Centre 88 – Conference Room Two A solid business plan is the foundation of a well-planned organisation and can help you save time when applying for funding and sourcing finance for projects. During this session we will look at steps to creating a simple business plan and explore tips and strategies for creating a good funding application and other finance options. Roles, Rights and Responsibilities of Committee Members Thursday 29th June 9:30am -12:30pm Centre 88 – Conference Room Two What does it mean to be part of the committee? This session explores the rights of committee members and their key responsibilities, as well as detailing the individual roles and tips for keeping your meetings effective. Basic Bid Writing Thursday 29th June 1:00pm – 4:00pm Centre 88 – Conference Room Two This session is aimed at people who have little or no experience in writing a funding application and session aims to help participants develop the skills needed to write a successful bid. The session will explore the following areas: Identifying suitable funders Being clear about your aims and outcomes Basic Budgeting The session will also include a ‘Dos and Don’ts’ guide to get you started July courses Health & Safety Level 2 Tuesday 11th July 9:30am – 3:30pm Centre 88 – Conference Room One This course is aimed at anyone who requires a comprehensive course in health and safety awareness. It is designed to meet current health and safety regulations and covers regulations, precautions, planning, risk assessing, PPE, and responsibilities of employers and employees. It also discusses RIDDOR, COSHH and First Aid regulations, along with fire and manual handling regulations. Successful completion of course and assessment leads to a 3 year nationally recognised health and safety certificate. Award in Food Safety for Catering Level 2 Wednesday 12th July 9:30am – 3:00pm Centre 88 – Conference Room One This is our most popular food safety qualification for anyone involved in the preparation of food. The course includes the basics of food preparation, regulations, precautions and care when handling food for others. Successful completion of course and assessment leads to a 3 year nationally recognised Food Safety certificate. Data Observatory Walk Through Session Tuesday 18th July 10:00am – 11:30am The Strand, Regent Room Hull Interactive session where you can find out how to use the Hull Data Observatory – a free and open online data resource – vital for evidencing need in funding applications. The session particularly aims to encourage participants adopting a strategic approach to fundraising which seeks to save time and effort. There will be opportunities to share ideas and tips. |
