17th November 2020International Fraud Awareness Week 2020
This year to play our part in helping to prevent fraud, the Neighbourhood Network arranged two Fraud Awareness sessions as part of International Fraud Awareness week 2020.
Presented by DS Ben Robinson of Humberside Police’s Economic Crime Unit, over 60 people joined in with two sessions! After the presentation there was the chance for attendees to talk about their own experiences and seek advice from Ben.
Key themes from the two sessions include if things appear too good to be true, then they probably are. The ‘Take Five’ campaign by Action Fraud is a good message to share with friends and family. ‘Take Five’ encourages people to stop and think about parting with your money. It suggests challenging the situation, as only criminals will rush you and panic you into making a hasty decision. Finally the campaign encourages you to report if sadly you are a victim of crime.
The Action Fraud website is a really useful site for lots of tips and advice on staying safe from fraud – https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/
Keep a look out for other Zoom training sessions coming up in the near future!
