Did you know, more than a third of burglaries take place because of unlocked or open doors and windows?

The Humberside Police know the impact a home burglary has on victims and the damage it can leave behind. As a force, they are doing everything they can to identify and catch those who commit burglaries and would ask people not to provide opportunist thieves with an open invitation into their festivities.

Burglaries often increase during the festive period and most of the time, they are not pre-planned and are a result of opportunist thieves.

Detective Chief Inspector Allison Sweeting, force lead for burglary said: “We continue to work to bring burglars and offenders to justice.

“However, I strongly encourage residents to take the prevention advice into consideration and make a conscious effort to protect their home and belongings to prevent the crime from happening.”
