4th April 2024MMR Community Vaccination Clinics are now happening in Hull
The best protection against measles, is the MMR vaccine. If your child has missed theirs, you can still get them protected at your GPs or in April/May at one of the free clinics, available for all children registered with a GP and aged from 5 to 16.
Parents and carers can use them to catch up on missed vaccines and ensure their children are protected from measles, as well as mumps and rubella. Measles cases are rising locally and nationally, as vaccine rates have seen a steady decline in recent years.
The clinics will be held in Family Hubs across the city, making them convenient to access for all residents. Timings include weekends and the May half term, to make it as easy as possible to pop along – pop-ups held over the Easter break have already proved popular with many people taking the chance to catch up. These clinics are only for children aged 5 to 16, but anyone who has missed a vaccine can ask their GP and catch up at any time.
Julia Weldon, Director of Health at Hull City Council, said: “We know how difficult it can be to find time to make an appointment and take time out of school or work to get there. Our conversations with parents and carers tell us that most want their children and young people to be vaccinated and that opportunities like this will be really helpful. We are seeing a rising number of cases and the only way to change that is by making sure you and your family are protected”.
