Hull: Thirteen-year-old boy charged with arson in Bransholme

A teenage boy has been charged with arson after a community centre was broken into and set alight in Hull. 

Officers and fire crews were called to the building on Pennine Way around 9pm on Wednesday 12 June to reports of a fire. 

The fire was quickly put out and no-one was hurt. 

A 13-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was later arrested and charged with arson. He is due to appear before Hull Youth Court later this month. 

North Hull Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Peasgood said: “I want to make it clear that setting fires deliberately to buildings is not a game. It’s extremely dangerous and can potentially put lives at risk. 

“It’s also very costly to the people who own the property. 

“This building was being redeveloped for the good of the local community and would have benefited lots of the people in the local area. That has now suffered a big setback.

“I want to reassure you that with the school holidays coming up, I will have my officers carrying our regular patrols to make sure communities are safe and we don’t get a repeat of similar incidents.

“We will be continuing our ongoing work to tackle antisocial behaviour across the whole of north Hull.
