Hull: Pepper spray and knuckleduster found on man in central Hull

Plain clothes officers from our proactive unit arrested a man on Friday 14 June who was found in possession of two dangerous weapons as well as drugs and money. 

The arrest was made on Cambridge Street just off Anlaby Road. An amount of cannabis and over £200 in cash as well as the weapons were seized. 

Hull Central Inspector Jules Hart said: “I have officers all over the Hull central area and patrolling the city centre as part of Operation Ignition, and this result is another excellent one for my teams.

“A knuckleduster is considered to be an offensive weapon. Pepper spray is actually a section 5 prohibited weapon, so this suspect could potentially be facing some very serious charges.

“When used, pepper spray can cause severe pain and irritation and can incapacitate a person or even a group of people in the same area. 

“It’s obvious to me that this suspected drug dealer could have been intending to use these items for violence or intimidation and not his own protection, so I’m very glad we have him in custody. 

“I nor anyone else wants this kind of activity in Hull city centre. In my experience violence breeds further violence, and to arrest this man just shows how committed we are to finding these people and taking them off the streets. 

“Operation Ignition isn’t stopping. And while my officers are out there, we’ll continue to get results like this.”
