7th August 2019Hull: 12 weeks sentence for 23 shoplifting offences

Gregg Gibson (no fixed abode) appeared in court today (7 August) charged with 23 shoplifting offences committed on Holderness Road in the last two months.
He was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail for his offences.
Darren Kirkwood speaks about the effect on the local shops where Gregg Gibson committed his crimes, “Gregg Gibson is a prolific shoplifter who caused misery to shop owners throughout the Holderness Road corridor by stealing hundreds of pounds worth of items by blatantly walking into shops and strolling out without paying.
“There is a misconception that shoplifting is a victimless crime, but this just isn’t the case. Small businesses suffer directly and larger retailers have to increase prices to cover costs which obviously impacts on us all.
“I want to thank the retailers of Holderness Road for their continued support and working with us to bring offenders to justice and hope that they continue to report shoplifters to us so that we can put them before the courts.”
