15th April 2020My Community Alert Passes 30,000 Sign-Up Milestone
My Community Alert, the free messaging system that sends real-time messages to residents across the region about incidents happening in their neighbourhoods, now has more than 30,000 users – with more people being encouraged to sign up to the service in the current challenging climate.
The alerts system, which is operated by Humberside Police, Humberside Fire & Rescue Service, and Humberside Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner, informs users of issues relevant to their immediate local area and has already helped to take stolen motorcycles off the road, tackle burglary and prevent vulnerable people becoming victim to sophisticated scams. Currently, the service has 31,700 subscribers.
Anyone can sign up at any time without the need for internet access. There is the option to choose the type of alerts received, on topics such as road closures and burglaries to wider messages relating to the Covid-19 pandemic. Users can also choose how they would like to receive messages – by text, voicemail or email – and how often, with updates sent to My Community Alert subscribers before anyone else.
Superintendent Jenny Bristow said: “My Community Alert is a really useful tool for knowing what’s happening locally, particularly at a time when our immediate communities have never felt so important to people. From speaking to those who have already signed up, we know that the service can help residents feel more connected to their neighbourhoods.
“We want people to feel safe where they live and this is an additional tool we can utilise to communicate the work we’re doing on the ground.”
“We want more people signed up so we continue to have the upper hand when it comes to catching criminals and keeping people safe.”
