Important Age UK Hull Announcement

Age UK Hull has decided to relocate its operations to a more prominent city centre location. As a result it has made the difficult decision to sell its Bradbury House headquarters to Hull City Council.

Pam Davies, Chief Executive Age UK Hull explains ‘ The time has come for us to make significant changes to our operation and to concentrate on developing both new and existing services and diversify our income base. We plan to grow much needed provision such as Information and Advice, Benefits Advice and Befriending services. These are key services that the people of Hull need and want. We plan to increase our Home Support and Day Care Opportunities as we know there is a growing need for these types of services to enable people to remain independent and in their own homes for longer. We will obviously be sad to leave Bradbury House but this gives us a unique opportunity for the charity to flourish and develop over the years to come and adapt to the ever changing needs of an older population’.

Sadly, due to the Covid 19 crisis, Bradbury House has been closed to the public since 23rd March. We have successfully continued to deliver key services to older people in the area from our homes and with no re-opening date in the foreseeable future we plan to continue to deliver these services in this way until we move to our new offices during the late summer. We are handling more requests for help and support from our service users than ever before and also a growing number of people are seeking volunteering opportunities with us.

Age UK Hull’s new offices will be within the headquarters of Pickering and Ferens Homes, Silvester House, The Maltings. They will be based on the ground floor of this historic building in the City centre. Both organisations already work closely together and this move is seen as a very positive development by both charities.

What has happened to the services that were run from Bradbury House, eg restaurant, shop, fitness suite?
Age UK Hull will no longer be operating its restaurant, shop or fitness suite that were part of its Bradbury House facilities. The Charity will continue to run its Information and Advice, Benefits Advice, Falls Prevention, Day Opportunities and Home Support services from its new location and will be exploring ways to deliver new services and more social activities moving forwards

Have there been any redundancies?
The closure of Age UK Hull’s restaurant, fitness suite and shop means that unfortunately some staff are at risk of redundancy. The Charity are conducting a consultation process with all the staff members at risk.
