22nd April 2021Humberside Fire & Rescue Service Arson advice

| There has been a rise in the number of call outs to waste fires and wheelie bin fires across the whole of the Humberside region. Specific sites have been identified as Brumby and Everest Road in Scunthorpe, West Park and Avenues area of Hull and East Marsh in Grimsby. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is calling on residents to avoid burning their own waste and not to let junk pile up in gardens or alleyways which can be a target for arsonists. Household recycling centres are open in all four local authority areas and residents should dispose of their larger household items responsibly. It is not an offence to light a garden bonfire, but regulations only allow garden or ‘green’ waste to be burnt. The bigger issue however, is large groups of youths and young adults gathering on common ground such as skate parks, playgrounds and other public areas and lighting fires in bins, bushes and alleyways. Anyone with information on anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhood can use the ARSON ALERT text line on 07940 737141. Text us in complete confidence with details of waste build up, suspicious fire setting activity or even the name of any perpetrators. We work with Humberside Police and other community groups to identify those responsible and reduce this blight on your neighbourhood. Extra patrols will be working in the affected areas, but your anonymous information can be absolutely vital in identifying new ‘hot spots’. |
