Operation Sceptre – National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) national campaign to tackle knife crime 26 April to 2 May 2021

Humberside Police are supporting Operation Sceptre – the national campaign to tackle knife crime. 

Op Sceptre aims to reduce the number of people, especially young people, carrying a weapon.

Superintendent Marc Adams is leading Op Sceptre in Humberside Police said, “The dangers of knife crime as a nation remain very real and prevalent. 

“This past weekend alone we saw a man in Grimsby lose his life through fatal injuries sustained through the use of a knife and elsewhere locally we have seen a number of recent serious incidents in which knives have played a role and caused some significant injuries.

“We want to reassure the public that we are doing everything they can to tackle crime in our area and it is important that we raise awareness of the dangers of carrying knives and to prevent anyone else suffering from knife crime.

“We want to do everything we can to remove knives from the streets of the Humberside Police Force area and are pleased to give our support to this NPCC campaign once again.

“A weapon’s surrender will again be available with ‘knife bins’ at a number of police stations. The stations with knife ‘bins’ are at Beverley, Bridlington, Clough Road, Goole, Osborne Street, Grimsby, Scunthorpe

“The previous surrender saw over 50 knives taken off the streets of our area, which is 50 less knives to fall into the hands of the wrong people.

“Our officers will be conducting weapons sweeps and doing proactive patrols across our Force area along with continued educational messages to young people about the dangers of carrying knives.

“Our message to those who carry a knife, or are thinking of carrying a knife, is that it doesn’t protect you and in fact it makes you more vulnerable and can put you in danger of serious harm.”
