11th June 2021National Insurance call scam
This week the NN team have been informed of a National Insurance telephone scam.
People have been reporting that they are receiving automated calls informing them that their National Insurance number has been compromised and to ”press 1 to speak with an advisor”. If you were to press 1 you would be connected to a fraudster who would then try and get access to your NI number and other personal details causing your security to be compromised.
REMEMBER: If you receive an unexpected phone call, text message or email that asks for your personal details please always Take Five:-
STOP – Taking a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information could keep you safe.
CHALLENGE – Could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.
PROTECT – Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam and report it to Action Fraud.
Take a look at the Take Five to Stop Fraud website for great advice on how to protect yourself against scammers https://takefive-stopfraud.org.uk/
