#OpGalaxy success following third week of intensified action

As the #OpGalaxy team end their third week of action, the proactive work has continued to intensify across the force area as we persistently disrupt criminality and take down those who think they can cause trouble within our communities.

Throughout the course of last week the team have arrested a further 52 people for offences including burglary, assault, theft and drugs related offences taking the #OpGalaxy intensification total arrests from the past three weeks to 161.

Officers with support from #OpGalaxy successfully executed seven warrants at properties across Grimsby as a part of a sophisticated operation targeting organised crime in the area across two days of action.

While searching the properties officers recovered electronic devices, high value jewellery, approximately £2000 cash, they also seized several vehicles. Drugs and equipment associated with the production of class A drugs were also seized.

Following warrants on Norwich Avenue, Grimsby and Turnberry Approach, Waltham on Thursday 8 July a 30-year-old man and 27-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply of class A drugs, money laundering and possession of class B drugs. A 33-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs. All three have been released under investigation whilst officers continue with enquiries.

A man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, money laundering and possession of a weapon and later charged with possession with intent to supply a class B drug and possession of a weapon following a warrant on Park Drive, Grimsby. The 29-year-old man was remanded in custody to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court on Saturday 10 July.

Detective Superintendent Doug Blackwood said: “This has been a vast operation, taking months in the planning and gathering of intelligence and information.

“Tackling drug crimes within the Humberside force area is a priority for us as it has a big impact on local communities, anti-social and disruptive behaviour often follows drug use and dealing.

“Importantly the operation also opened windows of opportunity for us together with the wider Community Safety Partnership to identify and safeguard vulnerable members of the community targeted by these gangs. 

“The community impact this type of offending has is the reason we will continue to do everything we can to disrupt these criminal networks, removing them, and the drugs they supply and distribute, from our streets.”

Early last week, on Tuesday 6 July we executed a misuse of drugs act warrant at a property on 7th Avenue, Hull, where officers discovered a large quantity of cannabis.  A 37-year-old man has been charged with the production of class B drugs and abstracting electricity and he was remanded in custody to appear at court on Thursday 8 July.
