Op Galaxy triumphs in fourth week and final week of action

Superintendent Paul Butler leading the intensification month said: “Throughout the course of the last four weeks #OpGalaxy have continued to proactively disrupt criminality operating in our force area.

“Since the start of the intensification period the team have been working in partnership with our local policing teams and the regional and organised unit and as a result, a total of 256 people have been arrested and 34 warrants executed.

“As a part of the operation, offenders have been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including, money laundering, drugs related offences, robbery, burglary, anti-social behaviour, road traffic related offences, organised crime, county lines and fraud.

“Our local Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have also been out and about engaging with local residents and listening to concerns, as well as updating you on the work we have been doing to make your communities safer.

“The work we do continues to put us on the front foot as we take control of our streets by making the lives of criminals and predators difficult and uncomfortable to ensure our residences feel safe and protected.

“Since the start of the intensification month we have successfully disrupted several criminal networks resulting in the removal of £459,000 worth of drugs from our streets, two hydraulic drugs presses, the recovery of £44,000 worth of valuables as well as a number of offensive weapons including two sawn off shotguns, a crossbow, handguns, air rifles and knuckle dusters. £38,000 has been also recovered through proceeds of crime act (POCA).

• Last week, on Monday 19 July officers discovered a cannabis factory on Castle Street, Grimsby. Two 33-year-old men have since been charged with the cultivation of cannabis and were remanded in custody to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court. Upon entering the property, it was reported that a large cannabis grow was discovered which is believed to have an estimated street value of £70,000.
• Assisting our Economic Crime Unit on Friday 23 July three people were arrested on suspicion of a number of fraud related offences including, money laundering, conspiracy to defraud, fraud by false representation, and bribery.The two 54-year-old men and a 38-year-old woman have since been released under investigation whilst officers continue with lines of enquiry.
• #OpGalaxy have also targeted prolific offenders in a bid to reduce acquisitive crime by apprehending those who thinks it’s okay to carry out shop thefts. As a result, seven people have been arrested with six of those charged with combine total 27 offences and remanded in custody to appear at court. 

Although #OpGalaxy intensification month is coming to an end the team will continue to support teams from across the force, including our newly launched #GetConsent campaign which saw police officers, in both plain clothes and high visibility, out in the town and city centres in areas where there are bustling night time economy hot spots throughout the weekend.
