2nd August 2021DPD re-delivery text scam
One of NN team has this week received a scam text from DPD. The scam text claims that the company are unable to deliver a parcel to you as there is an unpaid shipping fee.
They ask that you click on the link to re-arrange delivery and pay the fee of £1.99. If you were to pay the money a few days later you may receive a phone call from someone claiming to be calling from your bank alerting you to potential fraudulent activity on your account. This is called ‘Spoofing’. You may then be asked to move your money into another account, controlled by the fraudsters, to prevent any further loss. Once the money has been transferred they have complete control.
DPD advises to look for a fake text by paying attention to:
- Poor language – look for badly written sentences with poor spelling and grammatical mistakes
- Lack of personal greeting – rather than using your name, you will be addressed as “customer” or “sir/madam”
- Obscure links – always be wary of links in texts that urge you to click on them, and you should always double check where the link will be sending you
If you are ever unsure about a text for whatever reason, it’s always best to double check and do a little research.
Don’t click any links and instead visit the DPD website to get help regarding the re-delivery of your parcel.
