29th October 2021New Ukulele self help group in conjunction with BackCare and Timebank

The aim of this group is for people to learn how to play the ukulele with the support of other ‘strummers’, rather than a teacher.
Support can be obtained in a variety of ways.
1- At weekly sessions at Cecil Gardens on Hawthorn Avenue on a Wednesday afternoons, from 1. 30
2 – Zoom sessions,
3 – Individual face to face sessions at a time and place to be arranged on an individual basis.
4 – Purely working from a self help manual.
People may meet up on a regular basis or sporadically. Please phone 01482 353547 to discuss your needs.
They hope to meet at Cecil Gardens, Hawthorne Avenue at 1.30 pm on a Wednesday, starting on Wednesday 3rd November.
Experienced strummers may play after the beginner’s session.
The group have looked at several manuals and the one which will be used is ‘Absolute Beginners Ukulele’ by Steven Sproat. Cost about £10 new from a music shop.
If you haven’t got a uke, you may be able to loan one if you attend on a Wednesday.
The sessions are available to anyone who wants to join, but in particular they would like to encourage anyone who has a health problem, a disability that might make learning more difficult, or has failed to learn in the past. BackCare will be pleased to give extra support to those who may need it. Everyone must be a member of BackCare which cost £5 a year, a resident of Cecil Gardens, or member of Time bank which is free (but time bankers pay 2 time credits for each session).
It is intended that the sessions are free, as there is no teacher and the room at Cecil Gardens is free (many thanks to the management). Everyone provides their own uke and manual. You may at sometime also want a music stand and a tuner.
