20 hours per week – Salary £12929 per annum
Cornerhouse are looking to recruit a part time LGBTQ+ Youth Worker.
The role will include:
- To co-ordinate and attend a network of organisations delivering services to LGBTQ+ young people
- To facilitate, plan and coordinate the Step Out Youth Group in partnership with The Warren (these sessions are held one evening per week)
- To develop and deliver positive activities/workshops with Step Out Young People. These may include summer activities and residentials.
- To offer one to one support to young LGBTQ+ and be an advocate for young people and refer them on to other relevant agencies and services, as appropriate, to ensure their needs are appropriately met.
Cornerhouse discussed with young people what qualities and experience they thought the role required. Below are some of those:
- Experience of working with people on issues such as sexuality, family and relationships, discrimination & justice, children & young people rights.
- Experience of working with the LGBTQ+ community.
- Understanding and knowledge of issues that may impact on young LGBTQ+ lives including pronouns & neo-pronouns
- A Youth Work, Social Work or equivalent qualification and/or experience.
- Able to build trusting relationships with young people, enabling them to develop new skills and make their own informed choices supporting them to achieve their goals.
- Enthusiastic, positive and flexible attitude, with good time management. Able to work under pressure.
This post is currently for one year only – however, the organisation are actively seeking further funding.
