Two Weeks of Operation Shield
21st March 2025Celebrating the Anniversary of the Believe In People Podcast!

Three years ago, they set out on a mission to challenge misconceptions about addiction, highlight the power of recovery, and break the stigma that often surrounds these conversations. From the very first episode, Believe in People: Addiction, Recovery, and Stigma has been a platform for honest, eye-opening discussions with people who have lived through these experiences, as well as experts shaping the way we think about addiction and recovery.
Over the years, they had the privilege of speaking with an incredible range of guests. Singer Michelle Heaton shared her deeply personal battle with addiction and the strength it took to reclaim her life. Professor Dame Carol Black gave us an inside look at UK drug policy and the critical role of the addiction workforce. Musician Chris Tait of Electric Six opened up about his struggles with alcoholism and the challenges of sobriety in the music industry. Actress and filmmaker Amy-Jo Johnson reflected on personal loss, addiction in the entertainment world, and the importance of compassionate storytelling in breaking down stigma. And in a compelling two-part series, Sarah Hicks told her story of trauma, recovery, and advocacy, shedding light on the realities that so many people face but too few talk about. Each of these conversations, and many more, have helped spark important dialogue and inspire those on their own paths to healing.
This journey has not gone unnoticed. In 2024, the podcast was honoured with a British Podcast Award and earned a nomination from the Radio Academy, recognition that speaks to the impact these stories have had on listeners. But beyond awards, the real success of Believe in People is the community that has formed around it—the people who listen, share their own experiences, and support one another in breaking down stigma.
As they mark this three-year milestone, they remain committed to telling the stories that need to be heard and amplifying the voices that too often go unheard. There is still so much work to be done, but together, we are making a difference. Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to the next chapter of Believe in People.
