Photo Club Exhibition at Humber Street Gallery.
13th June 2025Hull Festival of Community and Language 2025.

Wednesday 28th May was a very busy day in the Welcome House calendar! The first event was their involvement in the Hull Festival of Community and Language in Princes Quay shopping Centre. They were represented by Zakiya and Dlpak, who talked to visitors about the courses they offer at Welcome House. The ground floor events space in the shopping centre was filled to the brim with a celebration of language and cultural diversity. There were interactive workshops, music, dance and storytelling, and so many lovely costumes. Organisations participating included Refugee Council, Welcome to English, Bora Shabah, Solidarity Hull and Forum, amongst others.
Helping clean up community spaces :
The second event that they were involved in on 28th May was a Community Cleaning Drive. The cohort was organised by Reshmi, our Community Inclusion officer. They want to show that as a community of asylum seekers and refugees they are keen to contribute to the wellbeing of the fellow residents and help take care of their surroundings. Welcome House had a really good turn out of willing helpers and it was so nice to see them all with the shared purpose of making a difference to the state of the environment. Alongside them were representatives from Humberside Police, Humberside Fire Service, Hull City Council and Jubilee Church. They cleaned the green areas around the Goodwin Centre and filled lots of bags with the rubbish we removed. A few residents came out of their houses to express their thanks at a good job done. Afterwards, it was nice to sit together and eat the packed lunches Reshmi had arranged for them.
