Humberside Police welcomes inspection report

Humberside Police has today welcomed the latest HMIC inspection report into Police Efficiency & Leadership in 2017.  The report, which was released today acknowledges the improvements made in some key areas.

ACC Scott Young said,

‘We have worked hard to make some significant progress in the last 12 months and are pleased that the HMIC has recognised this in their report.  Although the overall grade remains the same as last year, it’s clear from the commentary how far we’ve come’

‘We continue to improve and have always said that improvement has to be sustainable and therefore this has to be a long-term plan.’

‘Our officers and staff are passionate about delivering the best possible service to the people of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. We will continue to work tirelessly to make sure the improvements keep coming.’

‘I’m particularly pleased that the inspectorate has acknowledged the work of our Demand Team, which was set up last year to help us understand where the demands on our services were coming from, and to help find more efficient solutions to tackle them.  This work is helping us to identify how many people we need and where they need to be located.  It has also provided evidence to help us determine the numbers of new recruits we need and the locations where they will make the biggest difference to the public.  Some of these new recruits have already started policing the streets and 60 more new trainees are being attested tonight.’

The evidence provided by the Demand Team has also helps us to work with partners in Local Authorities and the NHS, among others, to identify people who have a range of issues that cut across all services so that we can be more proactive in helping them, rather than simply reacting when they call.’

‘I was also pleased to see that the inspectorate has acknowledged our work around Operation Encompass where we work with schools and others to safeguard children who are affected by domestic abuse, which is making a real different to children’s lives.’

‘Of course there’s always more to do, and this inspection provides us with some useful pointers.  We’re already working on the recommendations to improve processes and governance around our risk-based policing, and we have started the skills analysis to identify any gaps and address them.’
