We know the impact that antisocial behaviour can have on the lives of those who live and work in our area – and that’s why dealing with it is a priority for us.

Chief Inspector Michelle Garlick says our latest crackdown in north Hull had been a great example of what can be achieved when the community joins forces with our teams and our partners.

She said: “I’m really pleased with how Operation Ambush has gone. We know that sometimes what’s reported to us doesn’t reflect the level of what people are putting up with and this has been a great opportunity to speak to residents and business owners about their concerns and experiences and encourage people to report issues to us.

“By telling us what is happening, we can make sure we target our patrols in the right place and right time to deal with it effectively and ensure that our partner agencies can come in and work with those who need their support.

“Stopping antisocial behaviour isn’t just a policing issue. It’s something that can only be done by working together so it was great to see so many people getting on board with us.

“Almost 100 people signed up for My Community Alert at our engagement events which allows them to get real time messages about what’s happening in their neighbourhood.

“We also spoke directly to young people about their perceptions of antisocial behaviour and what activities they would like to see.”

As part of the activity, we also did a series of raids, arresting nine people and recovering what are believed to be Class A drugs, cash and weapons. Two of those arrested were cautioned. The other seven have been released under investigation.

A number of young people have been progressed through the youth courts. Two have been given Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, and others are receiving support and intervention to help address their offending.

CI Garlick added: “A lot of the great work that has been done throughout the operation has been as a result of information given to us by members of the community.

“I ask you to carry on talking to us and reporting anything that is causing you concern or distress. This will help us continue to work with communities to make them safer and stronger.”
