Humberside Police: 5,000 people sign up to My Community Alert

Officially launched on 15 March with Community Together action days on the North and South Bank of the Humber, from tackling nuisance motorbikes in the West of Hull to a full day of awareness raising in Humberston and New Waltham, neighbourhood teams were out and about to let residents, businesses and community groups know about the new system.

ACC Scott Young, explained: “The introduction of My Community Alert is an important step forward for us in working with communities to empower them and enlisting their support to work with us to tackle crime.

“This is an excellent policing tool and it is great to see residents getting on board by signing up so that together we can work to create safer, stronger communities. The more people that we have using the system the more effective it will be.”

“We’re currently rolling out training so that more of our officers can use the alert system as part of their daily business.”

The new system allows residents to receive real time alert messages about incidents, from missing people to road closures.  

Since going live, the top three categories that people have signed up to hear about are community safety messages, emergency road closures and disruptions and flood warnings and alerts.

As well as the numbers of residents signing up to the system, the number of community groups that people have signed up for has also grown exponentially demonstrating a great interest in targeted messages by the public, business owners and local organisations.

This means that Humberside Police now has the ability to deliver targeted messages to these groups, from CCTV owners to dog walkers and members of Pub Watch.
