Hull Active Citizens Programme

Hull has been awarded funding for the Active Citizens UK Programme Cycle 2018-19.

Active Citizens is a social leadership training programme that promotes intercultural dialogue and community led-social development. Through the programme, people with different beliefs and perspectives are brought together to learn from and share with each other. It has reached more than 210,000 people worldwide through its training and International Study Visits.

Sharron and Mike from the Hull City Council Area Teams will be delivering the programme in Hull to a variety of community representatives from a number of communities in Hull, particular neighbourhoods will be prioritised including Central and Avenue wards. Participants will receive the tools and support they need to set up or adapt the way they run their own social action projects to tackle a social issue within their community which they have identified.

The Active Citizens programme has been designed to develop our understanding of working with culturally diverse communities in our city, and to support communities to take a lead in shaping their future, leading to greater community cohesion.

As part of the scheme the council are trying to recruit and train 30 people in Hull for the project.

Mike and Sharron will be hosting a drop- in session at the Guildhall on Wednesday 21st November from 2pm – 4pm in Room C1. This will provide a bit more information about the Active Citizen Course and also to sign people up to the scheme.
