21st October 2022Hull: Man charged after attack
24th October 2022Have you heard of an Impersonation Scam?
Scammers are using a tactic called ‘Spoofing’ to try and contact you by impersonating a family member or friend.
Recently there are reports of a What’s App scam text circulating as scammers prey on parents impersonating a child asking for money to be sent over to them.
A message will often be received out of the blue purporting to be from your child from a number that you do not recognise and will be asking for money to be transferred. When the unknown number is questioned the fraudster will claim that their phone has been lost or damaged and that is why they are contacting you from a different number.
They will often then go on to ask for money to be transferred over to them urgently to pay for a new phone and try to rush you into sending over the money.
