26th January 2022Tackling Loneliness with Transport Fund
Description
Grants available to the public and charity sectors to run pilot transport schemes in England that aim to reduce loneliness.
Current Status: Open for Applications
Maximum value: £ 500,000
Objectives of Fund
The aims of the project that interested organisations need to meet to be eligible for funding are:
- To implement and deliver a range of effective, targeted pilot transport schemes for those at risk of loneliness
- To build an evidence base on transport and loneliness, particularly among vulnerable groups
- To demonstrate how new transport pilot schemes or a different approach using the existing transport network can trial new and innovative ways of tackling loneliness. Where applicable this may involve the continuation, adaptation or expansion of existing provision
- To fund a range of transport-related schemes that target lonely groups.
Value Notes
Grants of up to £500,000 are available.
If applicants feel that their proposal could be extremely valuable to the aims of the fund, but is either not viable to deliver with £500,000 of grant funding, or severely compromised as a result, provide costings for both the pilot being delivered for £500,000 and an alternative costing for a higher amount (up to £1 million), with a clear rationale for why the larger grant is needed.
Who Can Apply
Local authorities, third sector organisations and charities are eligible to apply.
DfT welcome applications from umbrella organisations that wish to give funding to local organisations underneath them. Partnerships with the private sector would also be welcomed, but it is expected that grants will be awarded to local authorities or third sector organisations and charities.
Proposed pilot schemes must:
- Be based in England
- Explicitly involve transport. For example, schemes may involve:
- rail
- bus
- active travel (cycling, scooting and walking)
- built environment
- community transport or car schemes
- demand responsive transport
- technological transport innovations
- mobility centres
- accessibility and inclusivity transport measures
- Explicitly aim to target those at risk of loneliness and reduce their feelings of loneliness.
- Spend all funds awarded by 31 March 2023.
