Are you a trustee? If so, check out this useful guide

new welcome pack is available for charity trustees which focuses on the main duties of the role.

It provides essential information to help you understand governance basics, financial filing requirements and how the Charity Commission can offer support. It also suggests practical steps that can be taken to carry out trustee duties effectively.

This guide is emailed to new trustees to introduce them to the role so that they have a basic understanding of their duties and responsibilities. It:

  • outlines the basics of trusteeship
  • summarises what they can expect
  • raises awareness of their duties and responsibilities
  • explains what needs to be sent to us
  • provides reference to more detailed guidance and information

The guide may also be helpful if you are:

  • a new trustee who has not received it by email
  • an existing trustee who would like to refresh their knowledge
  • thinking of appointing or inducting a new trustee
  • interested in becoming a trustee

From 30th April the pack will be emailed to all new trustees who register their email address with the charity commission. You can sign into the change charity details service and add email addresses for trustees.

The Commissions tested the content of the welcome pack with many stakeholders from across the charity sector. The feedback told them the content would be useful for existing trustees, so they have also made it publically available on their website to use as refresher training.
