19th March 2019Award winning team brings community initiative to North Bransholme
Building on the success of their award winning initiative to respond to community issues, reduce burglaries and improve fire safety in The Garths area of east Hull they are now bringing it to the North Carr area of the city.
From Monday 25 March they will be visiting nearly 200 homes on Abberdovey Close, Furness Close, Falkirk Close, and Crosswood Close in North Bransholme.
Working alongside Hull City Council, Riverside Housing, Humberside Fire and Rescue, North Carr Carers, Neighbourhood Networks and other community groups the Police will be giving out crime and fire prevention advice and free alarms.
As well as that, their partners will be able to identify any vulnerabilities amongst residents, give fire assessments, fit smoke alarms, give advice on waste management, answer questions regarding financial concerns, and advise about how to get more information by signing up to My Community Alert.
The officers behind the initiative, the Hull East Bransholme Neighbourhood Policing Team, visited 725 houses on The Garths over 16 months. They fitted 510 shed alarms, 41 garage alarms, and 20 allotment alarms. Forty vulnerable adults were identified and there were 77 high risk fire referrals.
They have looked at the results from that work and they’ve shown a marked reduction in burglary in the area.
From February 2017 to January 2018 there were 106 reports of burglary. Between February 2018 to January 2019 there were 81. That’s a 23.5% reduction which is a very encouraging sign.
As a result of the work done on The Garths the team won Humberside Police’s Team of the Year at the inaugural Excellence in Policing Awards held on Thursday night in Hessle. A photo of some of the officers can be found below:
