Bilton: Two 16 year-old boys arrested on hay stack fire charge

Humberside Police are investigating a large hay stack fire on Main Road in Bilton that was reported to them at 8.40pm on Tuesday 24th July.  Humberside Police believe the fire was started deliberately and it is being treated as arson.  They have arrested two 16 year-old boys in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information about this fire should call them on 101 quoting log 634 of 24/07/18.

While experiencing extremely dry conditions, fires can quickly get out of control and endanger life.  Please follow the guidance of the Fire Service:

What to do if you discover a fire

  • Move to a safe place and call the fire service on 999 immediately, provide as much detail as you can – size of fire, location and terrain
  • Don’t tackle the fire
  • If you haven’t already, self-evacuate the area as soon as possible – these fires can spread fast

As the harvest is being brought in throughout the region Humberside Police would remind farmers to make sure they do all they can to reduce the risk of their haystacks being set alight.  Check out the information on the Humberside Police’s website https://www.humberside.police.uk/rural-crime and the NFU have advice on their website https://www.nfuonline.com/news/featured-article/advice-on-farm-fire-and-wildfire-risks/
