28th July 2022Celebrating 20 years of PCSOs

Message from Chief Constable of Humberside Police:
This year we celebrate twenty years of the Police Community Support Officer (PCSO).
The role was created on 24 July 2002 as part of the Police Reform Act, designed to help police forces better support their local communities.
Rooted in our local Neighbourhood Policing Teams, our PCSOs provide a highly visible police presence. They deter anti-social behaviour, provide reassurance, gather intelligence and work closely with businesses, schools and others to keep our communities safe.
Here at Humberside Police we want to use this twenty year anniversary as an opportunity to showcase and celebrate our fabulous PCSOs, and thank them for the invaluable work they do every day.
Chief Constable Lee Freeman said: “Our PCSOs are an integral and vital part of our policing family.
“They are the people who know our communities best. They are visible and approachable and should be a familiar face to you. They’re in your schools, universities, shops and businesses. They work hard to develop close relationships with those in their local areas, providing crime prevention advice, supporting vulnerable people and really getting to the root of problems.
“We can’t thank them enough for the invaluable work they do every single day.
“Our first intake here at Humberside Police was in February 2005, and we recruited 21 new PCSOs. I am delighted to say that 11 are still working with us today – six still as PCSOs and five now in police officer roles. Over the next couple of days you’ll be hearing from some of them about their experience and what the PCSO role means to them.”
Keep an eye on our social media accounts throughout the week for more about our fantastic PCSOs.
