Child Accident Prevention and Safer Sleep Webinar

Unintentional injuries in and around the home are the leading cause of preventable death under 5 years and are a majority cause of ill health and serious disability. The reduction of unintentional injuries remains an important public health priority. The Unintentional Injuries and Safer Sleep Team are hosting a webinar to make practitioners and professionals aware of the main types of injuries to children and how we can prevent them.

Aim

• To develop practitioners’ knowledge about accidents among the under 5’s and the relationship between child development and injuries.

Objectives

• Explain the main kinds of injuries that young children experience, their causes and what parents can do to prevent them.
• Identify useful partner organisations that can support your accident prevention work.
• Identify the key safer sleep messages.
• Describe the factors that are effective in reducing the incidence of Sudden Infant Death
