Do you know the whereabouts of stolen mopeds?

There has been a spike in thefts of mopeds and motorcycles in the Riverside and Park areas of Hull over the last four weeks.

In the majority of cases offenders have taken the vehicles from the front or rear garden of people’s homes, before driving the bikes away after overcoming steering locks.

In most cases these vehicles have not been recovered.

Police are now urging the public to take steps to secure their machines and to appeal for any information about the whereabouts of stolen mopeds or motorbikes.

Motorbikes and mopeds can be lifted and carried away even when locked, so bikes left vulnerable are especially attractive to thieves.

Here are four ways you can help to keep your bike secure:
•Always secure your motorcycle with the fork and ignition locks, remembering to remove the keys.
•Invest in a quality solid chain and padlock to lock your bike and always lock the bike to an immovable object, like a bike park securing rail or a ground anchor.
•Set the alarm and immobiliser every time you leave it unattended. If you don’t have an alarm? Consider having one fitted and look for it to be Thatcham or equivalent security graded.
•Chain and anchor the bike even when storing it in a garage or shed at home, and consider fitting a separate alarm to the building.
