East Riding: Community Cycling Engagement Officer

Job Term: Fixed Term.

Appointment Type: Full time 37 hours per week

Days of work: Monday – Friday (with occasional weekend and evening work)

Hours per week: 37

Place of Work: Beverley (based in SRH Headquarters, but also working as part of ERYC Road Safety Team)

This is a fixed term position initially for 12 months.  The funding and effectiveness of the post will be reviewed on an annual basis by Safer Roads Humber

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Cycling Engagement Officer, working through the Humberside region.

The successfully applicant will be based in Beverley, but covering both North and South backs of the Humber. Initially working closely with partnership colleagues in East Riding of Yorkshire Council Road Safety Team, but ultimately responsible for managing their own diary and workload as part of the Compliance and Engagement Team. 

Safer Roads Humber is a Casualty Reduction Partnership comprising Humberside Police, Humberside Fire & Rescue, Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council and Highways England, which undergo many activities to reduce road casualties and maintain that reduction.  The partnership does this by carrying out enforcement, public facing engagement and education to high risk user groups.

This position is subject to a Police Vetting Check and an Enhance DBS check, with child barring list.

The Role

The overall purpose of the role is to develop and deliver engagement strategies to help promote safe cycling, whilst educating all road users in the need to share the road. The role will be data lead, working closely with data analysts to monitor road traffic collision trends and target vulnerable groups.

The successful candidate can rely on support from colleagues in East Riding of Yorkshire Council Road Safety Team and Safer Roads Humber Engagement Team.

The successful applicant will have qualifications and experience in the following areas:

  • Will hold a full driving licence to drive cars and light vans.
  • Already be, or be willing to become a qualified British Cycling Lead Rider and Bikeability Level 3 Instructor.
  • Have experience of working in a secure and confidential environment
  • Possess a sound knowledge of all aspects of cycling, be a regular, confident cyclist in all traffic environments.
  • Understand the issues faced by all road users in relation to safe cycling.
  • Strong project management skills and capable of managing their own workload.
  • Experience of engaging with specific target audience and developing strategies to identify solutions.
  • Experience of giving presentations to a range of audiences.
  • Be highly self-motivated and work with the minimum supervision.
  • Ability to create and deliver quarterly performance monitoring reports to the SRH Working Groups and/or Board.
