FM Global Fire Prevention Grant Program

Grants are available to organisations around the world that support fire prevention for the benefit of the public.

FM Global provides grants to organisations worldwide that are working to control fire.

Funding requests will be considered to help support organisations working to combat fire for a wide array of fire prevention, preparedness and control efforts.

Grant applications are reviewed four times per year. The deadlines for application are 31 March, 30 June, 30 September, and 31 December. Decisions are made approximately three to four months after the deadline.

Any organisation or agency that supports fire prevention can apply.

For applicants based in any country other than the United States and Canada:

• Applicants must demonstrate that their organisation operates exclusively as a fire service unit, or a national, state, regional, local, or community organisation that supports fire prevention under the laws of the country in which the organisation is located.
• The laws and customs applicable to the grantee organisation must not permit any of its income or assets to be distributed to,
  or applied for the benefit of, a private person or non–charitable organisation other than pursuant to the conduct of the grantee organisation’s fire prevention activities, or as payment of reasonable compensation for services rendered or as payment representing the fair market value of property which the grantee organisation has purchased.
• The grantee organisation has no shareholders or members who have a proprietary interest in the income or assets of the organisation.
• The laws and customs applicable to the grantee organisation do not permit the organisation, other than as an insubstantial part of its activities to engage in activities that are not for religious, charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes; or to attempt to influence legislation, by propaganda or otherwise.
• The laws and customs applicable to the grantee organisation do not permit the organisation directly or indirectly to participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office.

Examples of eligible costs include:

• Pre-Incident Planning (eg computer software programs, laptops, tablets).
• Fire/Arson prevention and investigation (eg juvenile fire setter programs, continuing education courses, digital and specialised cameras, accelerant detection equipment).
• Fire prevention education/training programs (eg community outreach initiatives, workshops, publications).

Funding requests for the following will not be considered:

• Salaries.
• Motor–powered vehicles (fire apparatus, automobiles, off-road vehicles).
• Building projects and equipment or training related to fire suppression.

In addition, service contracts on equipment and software, equipment for Hazardous Material related incidents, carbon monoxide detectors and CPR Equipment/Training do not fall within the scope of the fire prevention grant programme.
