Help Hull Butterfly City keep growing and claim your FREE Buckthorn plants

Hull Butterfly City wants to have links to as many community groups as possible in the city, so that individuals can make a difference in their gardens and community spaces and bring more butterflies into every space.  

A lot of people say they have many flowers that butterflies and other pollinators visit, which is good; however, Hull Butterfly City aims to provide more foodplants for their caterpillars, to ensure that some butterflies can benefit from the nectar provided by the flowers.

It is not too difficult, if we choose the right plants and allow the butterflies’ eggs to go through their full lifecycle.  

If we tidy-up all the old plants and cut the grass, dig the beds in winter and do not leave some wild spaces, all the planting of butterfly foodplants is unlikely to be so successful, as many of the pupae will be disturbed or cleared-up.  So, a balance is needed; a little wildness does go a long way.

Hull Butterfly City FREE Buckthorn for Brimstones giveaway is taking place between 1st-9th November, where you can plant an alder buckthorn to provide food for Brimstone butterfly caterpillars.
