In 2013, Hull was announced as the UK City of Culture 2017. A cultural programme has been taking place throughout 2017 to celebrate the unique character of the city, its people, history and geography.
To link into this the Heritage Lottery Fund has been running a campaign, ‘Revealing Hull’s Heritage’ over the past 12 months to encourage community groups to get involved. Revealing Hull’s Heritage encouraged community groups to come forward and develop projects to explore, share and celebrate the fascinating stories and history that have shaped the city’s historic landscape.
The campaign has been a huge success with over £190,000 awarded to a range of project across the city. However, now we are approaching the end of 2017 HLF want to ensure the momentum is not lost and the legacy is maintained. Therefore they want to encourage groups to continue to apply for funding to capture, record and celebrate Hull’s heritage.
How to get involved:
HLF can fund heritage projects which result in celebratory events, performances and exhibitions, but these should always be the culmination of a project in which participants have had an opportunity to learn about and enjoy the heritage.
The HLF development team will be running a funding workshops and grant surgery day at Hull History Centre where you can come along to find out about funding opportunities and book a slot to discuss your project and get advice
