Police are warning people of a phone scam where a fraudster pretends to be from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) before attempting to trick vulnerable victims into paying bogus debts and taxes.
The fraudsters claim that there is a warrant for the arrest of the victim and that they will be arrested if they do not pay.
The warning comes following numerous reports of the bogus calls in the East Riding of Yorkshire, particularly in the Willerby, Hessle and Brough areas.
Humberside Police are reminding people to remain vigilant and never to give out personal details if you’re unsure.
If you have received a call that you are suspicious about and feel may not be genuine, please call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or use their online fraud reporting tool.
