1st July 2022Hull Delivery Co-op pilot food project
Hull Delivery Co-op have been fortunate enough to receive some funding from Hull Food Partnership to start a pilot food project in Hull. This is an initial call out to see if anyone is interested in getting involved, there are lots of ways people can. Our bid set out a way of working and some broad aims and structure, but we included the capacity for everything else to be shaped by you.
AIMS
- To set up a food delivery scheme with a built-in pay-it-forward model.
You buy one – someone else gets one for free (well free-ish but we’ll get to that) - To give budding local chefs (maybe you) the opportunity to co-create a fabulous meal with as much local food as we can.
- To divert as much fresh food away from waste as we can and use it on the day to make meals.
- To offer as many opportunities as possible to contribute to the project in ways other than money.
WAY OF WORKING
1. The guest chef selects a couple of recipes
2. We source the ingredients, preferably donated or locally grown but sometimes locally bought
3. HDC whizz round on bikes and collect it all.
4. Chefs, volunteers, riders, and ingredients convene at a community kitchen.
5. We collaborate, have fun, and make a load of dinners.
6. HDC pedal the pre-paid ones door to door and the gifted ones too.
7. Those that can’t afford the full price give what they can, money or otherwise.
8. Everyone eats together – in spirit if not in place.
WHAT DO WE NEED?
Well, there’s a cost-of-living crisis, foodbank use is rising even for those in full time work and access to healthy cooked food is limited, so whatever you can do to help will be hugely appreciated.
IF YOU’VE GOT TEN MINUTES, WE’LL TAKE IT WITH OPEN ARMS!!!!
Here are some ways this project needs support…….
- Budding chefs (volunteers and paid) one meal for one evening or longer up to you
- Helping hands – (Pot washers, Veg choppers, Bag Packers, Bike riders) – travel expenses plus a meal for you and yours.
- Project Hands – Designers, organisers, and clowns to help make this project fun and effective.
- Businesses – Waste food, equipment, dosh, space, promotion, expertise. We’re here just let us know.
- Customers – If you don’t have time but you can afford a takeaway, do something once a week. It’s probably healthier and it helps someone else.
