Hull & East Riding: Caution after attempted street robberies

Humberside Police are issuing a warning and asking for people to be vigilant after two incidents of attempted street robbery.

On both occasions suspects have mounted the kerb on mopeds and attempted to steal phones and handbags as they’ve ridden past.

The first incident occurred on Mount Pleasant in Hull on Thursday 31 March and the second on Tuesday 5 April near Haltemprice in Willerby.

The first incident involved two men on a moped who approached members of the public and threatened them.  The second incident involved two men on a moped that attempted to steal a man’s mobile phone as he video-called his friend.

Thankfully no one was injured in either incident and nothing was stolen, but the victims were left extremely shaken.

An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the Mount Pleasant incident and has been bailed while police continue their enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Bradley said, “We know these two incidents will be a concern for members of the public.  But I can assure you that cases such as  these are extremely rare in our area. 

“Nonetheless I would ask for people to remain vigilant and report any such incident to us as a matter of urgency.

“We want to catch those responsible so calling us straight away means that we can immediately deploy our resources to locate suspects.”
