Hull & East Yorks: Two men charged for driving cars taken following house burglaries

Two men have been charged with driving stolen vehicles taken after house burglaries just a day apart in East Yorkshire and Hull

In unrelated incidents, the first man was charged after a burglary at a property on Hunsley Road, Walkington on Friday 3 January during which a set of car keys were taken.

A Nissan car was stolen following the incident. Steven Bowen, 45, of no fixed abode was arrested and subsequently charged with burglary, car theft, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

He was due at Hull Magistrates Court today.

In the second incident, a Mini car was stolen following a burglary at an address on Westfield Road in Hull in the early hours of Saturday 4 January.

A man was spotted later in the day driving the Mini in the city. Luke McKenzie-Smith, 23, of Bankside in Hull was arrested and following enquiries, he was charged with driving a car taken without the owner’s consent, failing to stop, driving without the correct licence and insurance, and making off with payment from a petrol station.

He will appear at Hull Magistrates Court later this month.
