7th October 2019Hull Fair
Tonight’s the night, on Walton Street the rides will be in action, the lights will be flashing and the smell of food will fill the air as Hull Fair gets into full swing.
Humberside Police will have their teams out every day and night throughout the week, patrolling the area to make sure that you can enjoy your time at the fair.
Once again, they’re working closely with Hull City Council, the Showman’s Guild, local licensees and residents to make sure that the week is a success for everyone involved.
Chief Inspector Paul Kirby said: “Hull Fair is always a fantastic event with thousands of people coming along to enjoy the sights and smells.
“As usual, we will be on hand throughout the week to make sure that it is a safe event for visitors and workers alike.
“With officers, PCSOs, cadets and police volunteers, there’ll be plenty of friendly faces to help you out, should you need it.
“We know that the majority of fair goers are law abiding citizens who want to have a bit of fun and enjoy the attractions, however there may be a small number of people who see it as an opportunity to commit offences.
“To those people I want to be clear, there is no place for this behaviour at the fair. My teams will be challenging anyone acting antisocially or committing crime, taking appropriate action.
“If you have any concerns about anything that you see at the fair please come and talk to us so that we can help.
You can also get in touch by calling our non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. If someone is in immediate danger or there is a crime in progress call 999.”
Here are some of our tips to help you stay safe:
– Leave any valuables such as tablets, jewellery and credit cards at home; only take with you what you absolutely need and remember to lock all windows and doors before you set off.
– Consider using one of the park and ride services if you can.
– If you drive to the fair, park in a well-lit busy area and remember where you parked!
– Keep your money and mobile phones in a safe and secure place. Consider wearing clothes that have pockets with zips or using a money belt to keep your property safe.
– Only take the amount of money you will need.
– If you see anything suspicious report it immediately to a police officer, PCSO, steward or fairground staff.
– If you are taking small children to the fair, take a photo of them before you leave so that we can see exactly what they are wearing, should they go missing.
– Write your contact details on a piece of paper and put it in the pocket of any small children that you are taking so that we can get in touch with you quickly if we find them.
– Talk to your children and point out police officers or PCSOs, tell them to speak to one of us if they get lost.
– Make sure you are familiar with the location of the Police, First Aid and Lost/Found children offices, hopefully you won’t need them but knowing where they are will speed things up if you do.
– Agree a pre-arranged meeting place to go to in the event of you becoming separated from friends/relatives.
If travelling by bus, make sure you keep enough money for your bus fare home. Check which bus you need to get home and where it goes from before you set off.
