Hull: Free NHS Health Check

ICE Creates are delivering FREE NHS Health Checks in Hull on behalf of Hull City Council.

ICE are delivering these FREE ‘mid-life health MOT’s’ throughout Hull in outreach settings such as; community venues, libraries, shopping and leisure centres, schools and workplaces – conveniently bringing the service to people that may not access support from their GP’s.

What is an NHS Health Check?

NHS Health Checks take the form of FREE individual 20-30 minute health checks, recording information such as height, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI and alcohol intake.

The results of the health checks are then explained to then individual with personalised advice on small changes that could help them lower their risk of suffering ill health (specially forms of heart disease) and tips to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

NHS Health Check will be carried out though community clinics and within workplaces on both a pre booked and drop in basis. All that is needed is a small room so a private consultation can take place.

To be eligible for the service individuals have to be:

  • Aged between 40 and 74
  • Resident in Hull
  • Not previously diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure or previously suffered a stroke.
  • Not currently prescribed statins
  • Not had an NHSHC in last 5 years
  • Registered with a GP in Hull

Employer Benefits

Employers that have undertaken NHS Health Checks have commented that they have led to a reduction in sickness absence and that staff have felt invested in and cared about by their employer. There has also been an organisational and cultural shift towards a healthier and increasingly engaged workforce. The NHS Health Checks are also informative and can act as a ‘wake up call’ giving staff the opportunity to play an active role in their own health and allowing them access to a service they would have been unlikely to have accessed otherwise.
