Hull: Jacek Ronczko sentenced to serve five years in jail

A 30–year-old man was sentenced to 5 years in prison after he assaulted a man then two days later walked into the entrance of Clough Road Police Station with a bottle of petrol and threw it at the wall. 

Jacek Ronczko of May Street, Hull was given the sentence on Friday 20 September after he pleaded guilty to assault, and was found guilty of affray and possession of an offensive article with intent. 

On Monday 5 November he approached a man, who was walking to work, and punched him from behind knocking him to the floor. The man suffered serious facial injuries in the incident. 

Two days later, Ronczko walked into the entrance way of Clough Road Police station carrying a bottle of petrol and a lighter. 

He threw the petrol at the enquiry counter, before he was tackled to the floor by a police officer and arrested. 

Ronczko was given a 2 year sentence for grievous bodily harm, with 2 years on extended license, as well as 3 years for possession of an article with intent. 

He was also given one year for affray which is due to run concurrently with his sentence for possession of an offensive weapon. 

Judge Bury took time to deliberate, concluding that Ronczko was dangerous and posed significant risk of harm to the public.

Officer in the case, DC Karen Smith said: “Ronczko walked into that office, without a thought for anyone in the area and carried out actions that put them at risk.  

“If PC Robinson, who was not on duty and not wearing protective equipment, had not responded so bravely, acting quickly to keep everyone in the area safe, then the incident could have been much worse.

“I welcome the sentence given to Ronczko for these offences and hope this shows that offences against emergency workers will not be tolerated.”
