15th July 2019Hull: Man charged in connection with assaulting two officers at Hull hospital
A man has been charged with assaulting two police officers at Hull Royal Infirmary on Saturday night 13 July.
A female and male officer were both assaulted while dealing with a man who had been arrested on suspicion of affray in relation to an earlier incident on Anlaby Road.
One of the officers received minor facial injuries but didn’t need treatment.
Joshua Butts, 24, from Anlaby Road in Hull has been charged with one count of common assault on a police officer, and one count of assault on a police officer by beating.
He’s also been charged with affray. Joshua Butts has been bailed to appear at Hull Magistrates Court next month.
Chief Inspector Matt Peach said: “Just ten days ago two police officers and two firefighters were assaulted during a shift in Hull. Unfortunately since then in Hull alone there have been a further 13 officers assaulted.
“One of the assaults that took place over the weekend, a member of the public assisted officers who I have thanked today for his brave public service.
“Assaults on all our emergency workers are totally unacceptable, and we say time after time that we will not accept them.
“I am sure the people of Hull will be just as annoyed as me that since the 1st July, 23 assaults have occurred against emergency workers.
“We provide support to all our officers following such incidents but it is appalling.”
