23rd September 2020Hull: Prolific shop lifter back in jail

A prolific shop lifter has been returned to prison for a further 18 weeks after admitting to a string of shop lifting offences and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order.
Liam Huteson, 28, of Exton Close, Bransholme, was released from prison earlier this month, after being jailed for similar offences.
As a result of an application by Humberside Police and Hull City Council’s antisocial behaviour team, on his release he was made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order which banned him from entering Kingswood Retail Park and North Point Shopping Centre.
In light of his record, Judge Richardson also imposed a civil injunction which prevented him from entering any commercial premises in Hull.
However, appearing before Hull Magistrates Court yesterday, Huteson admitted two counts of shop theft and two breaches of his Criminal Behaviour Order and common assault.
PC Ria Featherstone said: “Unfortunately, Huteson didn’t take this opportunity to put his life back on track and breached the order the day after his release.
“However, our teams acted quickly to get him back into custody, charged and before the courts and now he is back in prison again.
“I hope that knowing that Huteson is off the streets will provide some reassurance to businesses in the area that we will not tolerate this kind of offending and we will continue to take action against those who target shops in this way.
“This case also demonstrates why it’s so vital that we work with agencies who can offer support to those who have issues with addiction, substance abuse, poverty and homelessness, as unless these issues are addressed, it makes breaking the cycle of offending incredibly difficult.”
