19th July 2019Hull: Shop closure to help reduce antisocial behaviour and crime

After years of flagrant abuse of licencing laws and sale of counterfeit goods at a notorious Hull shop, the shutters have now been pulled down on it because of the offences being committed there.
Thanks to complaints and intelligence given to us from the local community and members of the public, the One Shop store on Beverley Road has now been closed.

“We listened to their concerns and we acted on them.
Neighbourhoods Inspector Mark Peasgood said: “This premises has been the epicentre of antisocial behaviour and persistent street drinking for years.
“The issues have been causing constant problems for the local residents.
“People living in the area told us about the problems of drink related crime, disorder and antisocial behaviour and we’re now very happy to report that it has closed its doors.
“We revoked the alcohol licence, and brought prosecutions from both community safety licensing and Trading Standards for numerous offences.

“A warrant was executed in April 2019 also with Trading Standards and with the assistance of community safety licensing and local police community team.
“During the warrant around 50,000 smuggled and counterfeit cigarettes and tobacco were seized.
“The landlords were notified of this criminality. They have now terminated the lease. The shutters are down and the locks have been changed.
“This is the second successful closure order at premises involving crimes such as illicit cigarettes and smuggled and cheap alcohol. The other premises was on Hessle Road.
“Cheap smuggled cigarettes and booze can be bought at pocket money prices and are therefore alluring to vulnerable children. It also causes and contributes to drink related crime, disorder and antisocial behaviour.
“Once again this shows that by working in partnership with the local authority and Trading Standards we can collectively make a huge difference.
“The closure of this shop will have a positive impact on our local residents and community.
“It sends a stark warning to those involved in illicit tobacco and supplying cheap smuggled alcohol that we will seek every avenue to disrupt them and, if we can, bring them to justice.”
