Hull: Statement in response to residents concerns to unlawful encampment on Pickering Park

In response to the increased concerns from local residents about the unlawful encampment of travellers on Pickering Park:

The laws surrounding unlawful encampments on private and council land are complex and Hull City Council are in the legal process to evict the travellers who are on Pickering Park.

Hull City Council and the police are aware the number of travellers in the park increased yesterday and understand the impact this is having on the local community whose lives and access to their local park has been disrupted over the past week.

Humberside Police Chief Superintendent Phil Ward said, “We are working with local councillors and Hull City Council to help and reassure residents while Hull City Council continue with the legal process to evict those on the park.

“Officers are patrolling this area with support from our specially trained liaison officers that work closely with the residents and the travelling community.  I want to reassure people we are responding to all reports of criminal activity, as we did so on Friday evening following several reports from concerned residents.

“All offences are being investigate and I would ask that anyone seeing any crime being committed to contact us on 101 so that we can deal with it swiftly.”
