22nd August 2022Hull: Successful results for drugs dog operation

Humberside Police’s four legged colleagues continued to spread reassurance across Hull with the return of the high visibility drugs dog operation carried out by the Hull West Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) on August 18th.
The NPT plays a crucial role in tackling issues that they know are important in our communities and this successful initiative recognises the impact the misuse of drugs can have in the area.
PC Williamson, who leads the initiative in Hull, said: “Using drugs dogs to assist with searches is a great way of identifying people who may be supplying or carrying drugs and can also act as a deterrent to those involved in such crimes.
Last Thursday’s operation saw PCs and PCSOs following a passive drugs dog through key routes we identified in the city. They carried out 15 stop and searches and made eight seizures, including of cannabis and bladed weapons. They made one arrest for possession with intent to supply, and issued one summons to court and one further warning.
“As an organisation, we are focused on delivering for our community, and the feedback received drives our priorities to continue developing our approach going ahead.
“The response from the public has been positive and we continue to receive great feedback. They have told us that they are reassured that we are acting upon the information that we receive.
“None of it would have been possible without the dedication and support of everyone involved internally and externally, so I would like to pass on my thanks to all those who participated.
“There were some fantastic results and I continue to be incredibly proud of the hugely professional approach taken by my colleagues when undertaking these tasks. I am confident that the work we carried out yesterday have already made our streets safer.”
