25th October 2019Hull: Suspected rogue traders arrested for trying to con 89-year-old woman

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of fraud after they allegedly tried to con an elderly woman by overcharging her for work they claimed had been done.
Police received a report that the victim was approached at her home on Albert Avenue in Hull on Tuesday 22 October by a man who said he could clean her porch for £90. When the porch was cleaned by a man who said he would come on Wednesday to collect the money.
When he came back he claimed that roofing work had also been done, said the total bill would now be £900 and that he would come back again the following day to get the money.
The woman’s friend reported it to Humberside Police, and officers attended at the same time the suspect said he’d return.
Two men were arrested for fraud by false representation. They’ve been released on bail.
Police want to issue a warning about suspected bogus workmen or rogue traders, and to ask people to always double check if they are unsure.
